Is it possible to be able to learn the guitar without a person giving you lessons?

Question: Is it possible to be able to learn the guitar without a person giving you lessons?

I really admire the guitar, and i'd love to be able to play and sing. I'd practise. I can read the music, I just quit the flute after playing for 4 years. Any tips and advice? I've heard you can learn online... any sites? Thanks :) x

You can learn a little online, but mostly you will just get confused. People have different ways of explaining things online. It is much easier if you can ask a question to a real person.

Www.about.com has a really good beginner lessons tells you everything you really need to know. My advice is don't get frustrated with it when you cant't get something and practice A LOT!

It's been done. It would be easier with a GOOD instructor, but with your background I would think you will be better off with instruction books than to waste time with a bad instructor.

I play the flute too! I taught myself to bass and from that I was able to learn sonme guitar. While Im not great i can get around and solo a little on guitar. You should look up some tabs and try building up tecnique through them. And you could also try going on youtube. There are alot of people who give lessons online.

There's quite a few good guitar books but they are quite expensive. Tabs are useful if you know the rhythm. But you should get lessons from a good teacher because most guitar teachers are quite bad.

It is possible to self-study guitar but for beginner, but I recommended that you have an instructor. Because you need someone to teach to how to finger right, hold instrument, approach a sheet, ... I don't play guitar but I play piano and violin, I know that you can make music sound by reading books, learn lesson even online but there's always threat that you made some faults you don't know or hard to make them right even you recognize them, and it's important for it make you impossible to move to more advance lesson/ technique. my advice is that having an instructor for very first beginning to the point that you can self-study yourselves. P.S: I have a student who self-study herself and we have hard time to make her 'do it right' to make better sound production.

There are several really good online guitar lesson websites, for example justinguitar.com and theguitarlesson.com Many people just browse through youtube videos, but thats not really effective since you won't have any structure to the lessons.
