Of course, with the right amount of determination and will-power, I've never had a guitar lesson in my life and I've come quite a long way with only the help of books and the internet. |

Strawberry Lemonade has it. Lessons are good too, but I find it much cheaper and just as beneficial to learn on the internet, as there's so much material on there about learning guitar that if you just stick with it, you'll eventually be able to play whatever kind of music you want. |

I learned that way, I got taught my first few chords by a friend and then the rest was all from tablature and chords online try ultimate-guitar.com/ for them. Also if you have a mac check out the new lessons that come with Garageband they're awesome! |

If you are an absolute beginner you would be much better off to get yourself a qualified teacher to start off with because a teacher can correct bad habits immediately that you wouldn't even be aware of until they become long-term bad habits that you would probably have to correct later. Get a qualified teacher. If you don't like the first one, get a second, and a third, etc. If you really want to start out on the right foot get a qualified teacher in the beginning - it will save you a lot of grief later on down the road. |

Hmmm it depends on the kind of person you are ... some can easily learn from videos and books but others just don't like using them. If you find that you can learn from video then its definitely possible to teach yourself guitar using the internet. I'm self-taught and learned the guitar using lessons from the web as well... it does work but you just need some effort. Left a link to the course I used below... |

It's never 'easy' to learn to play the guitar, but teaching yourself through books and the internet isn't the best way to go about it. sure, a lot of people are self taught and are great players, but 90% of the time, someone who is being taught by a professional is going to progress faster than someone who is self-taught. because a proper guitar teacher will know through experience the best order in which to learn things. its not expensive for one lesson a week. mine cost £15, which is a bit over the average, but the teacher is the best in the area. he's been playing for nearly 40 years i think, and knows ridiculous amounts of music theory and special techniques, amongst everything else. all in all, teaching yourself is good, learning from a pro is better. |
