Just curious but if you taught yourself guitar, how did you teach yourself? what kind of books or websites did you use and how long did it take you to get kind of goood?

How to teach yourself guitar/where to start?!?
I have an acoustic guitar that has just been collecting dust, and I really want to pick it up and learn how to play. Unfortunately, my family is going through EXTREME financial problems, leaving me without the opportunity to take lessons. Nonetheless I want to learn how to play, and will teach myself if that's what it takes. Now my question to people who have taught themselves, or are currently learning although everyone learns new things everyday what steps have you taken to learn how to successfully play the guitar? Did you start with scales, or dive straight into chords and learning simple songs using tabs and just memerizing the chords that way? Recommended books, websites, or online videos would be a big help as well It would really be appreciated if you could help, or give any advice.Thank you additionally, it would be a big help if you let me know which basic chords I should master first.

i'm teaching myself to play guitar, out of a book. theres this chord that i've been practicing for a while now. i can't seem to change to it fast enough, am i doing something wrong? everyone always says that if you teach yourself the wrong way to play guitar, then you wont learn anything. how do you " learn the wrong way" ?

Is it possible to teach yourself guitar if you know how to play piano?
I have been playing the piano for 10 years now and I can say that I am pretty good. I have also been playing a string instrument, the violin, for 3 years. I love music, as you can tell, I play, listen to a lot , and sing, too. Now, I would really like to play the guitar. Based on my musical experience, would you say that it would be easier for me, than most beginners, to teach myself how to play guitar, with those books or online help sites? Is teaching yourself guitar worth it?
I was in Guitar City recently and saw them selling a Fender guitar acoustic guitar startup kit for $100, and was debating buying it and picking up some starting books and things of that nature to save myself some money by not having to take lessons. To those of you experienced with the guitar, do you think this is a good idea? Why or why not?
