Question: Why are martin guitars so expensive?

What really makes a guitar cost so much more and sound so much better i mean i customize guitars and i know the basics but i wanna know what it is that allows say martin to sell a guitar new for say 3000 dollars when the guitar cost 32.95 to make Great answers you guys have been ever so helpful. I never even thought of that. I was trying to decide if i should blow a whole lot of money on a martin. I played it a little but i really wont know till i record with it. thanx youve persuaded me. dont mind my uneeded ignorance , thanx guys

The quality of materials and craftsmanship, A Chinese $99 dollar special is made on an assembly line with little concern for quality or materials used, where as an American Made Martin is hand built by a very talented luthier which makes more than the 12 cents per day his Asain counter part does, have you ever played an American made guitar?
