Question: I'm learning the guitar and i have a few questions!?
(Posted by: <3 on 2010-04-05 03:02:28)
I've just started teaching myself the guitar, I will get a tutor soon but for now I'm just teaching myself all I can. I'm playing on my mum's old accoustic at the moment and I can't stretch my fingers around the wide neck. I know this is common in guitar playing so I was wondering if there are any slim- necked accoustics out there? Also, picks. I know there are different types, what type is best for a beginner? I had a go on my uncle's electric and I loved it, how much are electric guitars? And amps? They're probably like 3 grand or something I can't afford, so are there any places that sell second hand electrics (something better than ebay).? Thankyou in advance! |

Fender makes some acoustic guitars with necks that are not so wide. You can get electric guitars and amps for a lot less than $3000. I bought a Fender acoustic-electric for $300. It's not the greatest sound but you can learn on it. You can also get an amp for around $200 but if you can afford a better one, get it; the sound will be better. Get a pick that you are comfortable with; it's really a matter of personal preference. |

Hi! first there is not acoustic guitars with a slim neck, the guitars like that are electric guitars but i recommend you to keep trying on the acoustic guitar, because if sometime you want to change into the electric guitar it'll be much easier to play it. in picks there are different types as you said, but all picks can be used by beginners depending of the style there are picks for solos or rhythms...Electric guitars vary its prices it is different according the brand you buy... if you are a beginner i recommend you to buy a fender squier i started with one of those they cost Between $200 or $300 an amp doesn't cost as much as you think for a beginner i suggest an amp between 10 or 15 watts that may cost $300 or $500... that's all i can say just keep trying and practice a lot. good luck :) |

I've been playing guitar for a year, normally before you start playing guitar you need to do warm ups e.g on the string play the first fret to the 4 then go to the next string play 1 to 4 and so on. You will be able to reach areas of the guitar if you are in the right position. Your wrist should be bent and your thumb on the back of the neck of the guitar. Picks: There are fancy picks and good picks. you need a pick with a grip on it. practise first just hitting the strings with the pick and then try the positioning of your fingers on the neck of the guitar Guitar: You should start with an acrostic guitar once you get Better an electric guitar. If you get a tutor they should reach you hammer offs and pull offs for starters but that later. Then you'll be finding that you can read chords so you can play them in songs. Tabs you learn first. If you have learnt tabs here is a website. |

Hold the guitar on your left leg, with the guitar head at eye level, and keep your thumb firmly locked in the center of the back of the neck (not around it). If you still have trouble, go to a guitar store and find a smaller guitar. On the other hand, maybe you are just trying to do stuff that is too advanced for your level and your fingers aren't used to stretching that much. |
