Question: Help me learn the guitar please?
(Posted by: on 2009-09-25 14:09:45)
Hi folks i am madly interested to learn the guitar. i am about 20 days old in guitar learning courses. i basically learn by videos on you tube and other sites. i know a few chords like A, Am, G, D, and F . it is damn easy to play a single chord. but while changing chords for simple progressions like A- D- E i find it very difficult to maintain rhythm as it takes longer to change the chord without any disturbance in the rhythm. please tell me any tips that will help me to change simple chords. as i am unable to progress ... thanks god bless u |

Hi, I am a self-taught guitarist. I think in the beginning, it can be a little more difficult because your fingers haven't yet built up the "muscle memory " required to really play easily. Also, it will take time for your fingers to develop callouses so you can handle pressing the strings down for a long period of time. I think you are off to a good start knowing some chords and watching some videos; the internet has a lot to offer. I would suggest learning to read tablature, and beginning to learn some songs that you like and want to learn. Even if you can learn just a few notes, once you see that you are able to do it, you confidence will soar and you will begin to make more rapid progress. Good luck. Also, learning to tune is very important. If you aren't in tune, the songs you're trying to play won't sound right. I would pick up a chromatic tuner if I were you, and tune your guitar to the song you're trying to learn. Most tabs say the notes on the left hand side of the tab. |

Since you have been playing for a very short time, you need to keep practicing. I also taught myself how to play the guitar and I had that problem at first. Once you know all the major chords, you will be playing like a pro. Simple transitions are D-A-Em. C-F-Em. or backwards. I suggest you get a book that shows you what all the chords are to make learning them easier. A really easy song is you belong with me by taylor swift. Its goes D-A-Em-G for the verse and chorus. For the bridge and hook parts its just A-Em-A-Em-G |
