What is my best bet in wanting to learn to play guitar "scales"?
I have interest particularly in Blues Jazzy stuff. Something like Stevie Ray Vaughan or Eric Clapton would play. But I also have a slight interest in sort of an instrument shred. I play on acoustic, however.How many different scales are there in each genre Rock, Blues, Jazz, etc. ? How were these scales originally " found" for them to be the official scales for that type of genre?I've looked up certain ones and tried to play simpler ones. For instance, the other day I learned a simple Pentatonic Blues scale in E 9th position . Are there any books that you would recommend that can help me understand in a simple way how to play them and what they are? For instance...the simple one above that I mentioned. I can take that pattern and try to play it with different variations to try to make it sound good. But how do people just " improvise on the fly" with similar patterns...yet every single note of theirs sounds good? That seems nearly impossible that they have memorized how each and every note would sound together and " pick the right one" every time when improvising a solo.

I got a guitar for christmas its a Johnson model JG 100 R. I have been watching guitar lesson videos on youtube and i just cant seem to figure it out.. This is my first time ever even holding a guitar. I really want to learn. Im watching beginner lesson videos but they seem to advanced for me. I am getting a guitar for christmas, and i have always wanted to play it and my mum has wanted me to learn as well. I can sing so thats a bonus for me anyway moving on... I dont want to take lessons because i would rather work at my own pace and go as slow or fast as i want really depending how fast i learn. Is there any good courses on the internet i could buy or books? I want to not just play guitar but I want to learn how to read guitar notes and chords and all that.Please let me know if you know of anything or anyone who has learnt on their own it would be a great help thanks

Learn to play guitar?
I have been playing picking at an electric for a couple years now. I dont play songs or tabs. I dont know any music theory, I just thrash whatever I feel. People tell me I'm a badass. I jam with drums alot. I just dont have the patience for tabs, but I want to learn to play the guitar and know what Im playing. If you have any advice I would appreciate it thanks.
Guitarists: Are there any advantages in learning to play guitar if you are a painter/sketch artist?
My friend is 28 years old and learning to play guitar for the first time in his life. He's been a fine artist his whole life, painting murals and doing drawings for literally as long as he can remember.He asked me if there was an advantage to learning to play guitar with this artistic background. My question is in terms of learning.What advantages would he have over the general population as a painter? I don't mean patience or creativity, I'm talking about hand control or the thinking that's involved in guitar.

Learn to play guitar?
ok so i really love the sound of music when its played in acoustic . so i erally want to learn how to play the guitar. acoustic guitar of course but i really dont know where to start what kind of guitar to buy and what not. I was wondering if i could learn guitar on my own or if i could take lesson and acutaly learn from someone?and if i took lessons how much would they be and how long would it take to learn how to play good. i know it takes many years to become very good with expirence and everything but i mean just learning all the basics and a couple of songs. thanks please i would like to know the prices of everything too
Learning to play guitar...good sites to start me off?
I started to learn a few weeks ago, but stopped for several reasons but now i want to start again, forgot the site that was helping me but it was good it showed me all the basic chords and variations with stumming very helpful even had videos for each lor should i just start learning songs by other bands? i want to be in a band myself one day too so any advice ie appreciated..
