Need some advice on learning how to play the guitar?

Question: Need some advice on learning how to play the guitar?

(Posted by: iloveyou'* on 2010-03-06 10:43:56)

(Yes, I know i've already posted this but I thought I'd put it in a different section to see if I got more answers) Ok so i'm a thirteen year old girl, wanting to learn how to play guitar. I don't really want to play professionally, I'd rather play as a hobby. My dad knows someone that can teach me for free..but the thing is I would much much rather play electric guitar instead of acoustic, but my dad has told me I have to learn on acoustic and then move onto electric. Is this true? And could anyone please recommend some good electric guitar brands? I quite like the look of fender stratocaster standards, and they're also not too expensive but then again I don't know anything about guitars at all! Thank you xx

You can learn some chords and easy songs from : ultimateguitar.com , but it's best if you get a teacher because he can teach you think it's hard to learn by yourself

YouTube has plenty of people that show you step by step. Some even write the notes on giant poster boards. Go to YouTube and put Guitar For ... and then the name of the song you want to play. there are thousands out there

I started to play guitar when i was thirteen im fifteen now and taught myself everything i know. i have never picked up an acoustic guitar i started playing electric right away i like the sound of it better. i found it easy to teach myself. but you must learn how to play tabs, they are easy :) ... i like gibson guitars the best, you can get fender lookalike guitars which to be honest are just as good :) hope this helps :D x

Hey im 13 too and my dad thought that also but my guitar teacher said if you would like to do more of the solo parts/ "licks " or if you like lead then you should play electric. The acoustic guitar is more for the rhythm. Yes good electric guitars are very expensive but if you want a good one, it is most likely going to be high priced. The Epiphone SG G310 is a great guitar here is a site for top 10 beginner guitars! hope this helps alot! = ) guitar.about.com/ od/ helpbuyingguitarsgear/ tp/ electricguitars.htm A lick is a string of notes that have come together and i think they are the best. They are what make up a solo and they are really fast and put together here is an example. youtube.com/ watch?v= r6ZLjN41DZQ This is good look at it and hope this helped alot
