Well it takes time and patience to do that. I have been playing the guitar for 6 years and I started learning by ear maybe 4 years ago, so that's 2 years of experience. I kinda know (at that time) what a specific chord sounds (not all, some, a very few "some "). Like for example the E minor and major chords, they give out a thick, deep ambient sound that reverberates very beautifuly. Something like that. When I want to learn a song, I always look for the root chord of that song, it's usually the first or the last chord played in the song and usually end a measure. From there I look for similarities from other songs then try it out. Simple pop songs or alternative rock songs are easy to fugure out while heavymetal, jazz, or acoustic songs are very hard because these songs often dont use simple major/ minor chords. You get the point. The very first rule is be sure your guitar is in tune, or has the same tuning of the song you want to learn. The standard is EADGBE (From the lowest string to the highest, pitchwise) while other songs may have lower, higher or something different altogether. From there, take the song by heart, and you should be playing that song in no time. Have fun playing and God bless! |
