Took me a Good year before I could play anything good. I sang as I played guitar, it gave me more reason to just strum chords. Learn the basic chords like C, G, A and then just look up your favorite songs and sing/ play along with them. You'd be suprised, alot of them are really easy.

Guitar tabs... its guitartabs.com and its really helpful, just think of a song you know and look it up on that and start to practice it, and youll have it down after not too long. but to be able to just kindve play what ever you feel like takes a lot longer, but its worth it.

Websites like guitarplayerworld.com buying books that taught you how to play. youtube.com i would recommend getting a teacher, cuzthey make it easier. i tried teaching myself, but i found myself slacking off and not really practicing, but once i started going to lessons, i had like a goal to work to, like knowing my stuff before the next class. and if you havent bought a guitar yet, then i suggest you buy an electric guitar to start learning on cuz they are easier to play.

Go on youtube and find out the basic chords you need to know on the guitar.. a video tutorial for beginners is how i started.. eventually you will become familiar with these chords and i use a website called "Ultimate Guitar.com " type in google the name of the song you wish to learn and chords for example my first song was "the climb " i typed "the climb chords " into google and a link for ultimate guitar came up i find ALL my chords from this website! It took me a few weeks to learn the basic chords and a few months a learnt the more difficult ones.. i've been playing for about a year an a half and the chords now come naturally to me.. if you keep trying you can teach yourself to play and it's a wonderful feeling being self taught! Good Luck!!

I tried everything from free internet lessons to the very expensive "Learn and Master Guitar " DVD set. What worked best for me was the Rock House Method DVD's. books-videos-music.musiciansfriend.com/ product/ Rock-House-Learn-Rock-Guitar-Beginner-Intermediate-and-Advanced-3DVD-package?sku= 942719
