Question: How do i teach myself how to play bass guitar?

I can't afford lessons from a teacher so I have to teach myself, but I'm confused and don't know how. I understand the basics like reading tab, but what do I practice and how? Do I just practice playing scales or what? Please help.

There are a lot of online tutorials that you can use but my personal advise is to find a musician or a tutor too help you. anyways here are a few links if you arent interested in the tutoring stuff enjoy

You're probably best off starting to look for some videos on technique for both your left hand and especially the best way to hit with your right hand. (Unless you're using a pick, where it's still important, but not as critical as when you're using your fingers) Get the essentials down with that, then start moving to playing actual songs. At that point, you've already got your tab to get you going.

First you have to get used to just having the bass in your hands, playing is all by feel. It takes a little time to get used to putting your fingers in the right places. If you need a little confidence booster I suggest practicing "Forever " by papa roach or "audience of one " by rise against. They are both very simple songs to play on bass. I suggest Forever first because its as simple as it gets. Just take you time and don't get discouraged. Youtube helps and find a GOOD tab site.
