What is the best way to hold a guitar standing up?

Question: What is the best way to hold a guitar standing up?

(Posted by: Bloody Chaos Child on 2010-03-10 00:00:12)

Hi, I own a BC Rich Warbeast, and I'm pretty good at the guitar sitting down. However, I find it much harder to play standing up, unless I put my foot up on a chair or something, or use the Alexi Laiho solo stance - but this would render me unable to move around on stage with my band. If I have the strap too high it looks silly, it's uncomfortable and playing power chords feel unnatural, but I can play a lot better than with my strap really low - although this looks and feels better. Does anyone know the best way to hold an electric guitar, that makes it almost as easy to play standing up as sitting down? Thanks :3

I have the same problem. Standing up is much different than sitting down. I'd say do a combination of all these things. You might look a bit goofy with the strap up tight, but who cares, as long as you're comfortable with it. Look at Tom Morello, he's got his strap up all the time. Stand up, use your knee or lean back a bit to gain some balance. It's kind of along the same lines as shooting a gun. It'll always be easier, and more accurate sitting/ with a stand. Check out these guys. Watch their bodies, see if you can get anything from them. youtube.com/ watch?v= PaXpGmIpbaI &feature= fvw And as always, practice.
