Question: Electric guitar instruction?

I've had a stratocaster electric guitar for well over 2 years now and I'm completely frustrated! I've taken a few beginning lessons before, but I've moved around a lot and can't take lessons now. Does anyone know and good self- instruction books or things that are of good quality? Like that fret2fret system? Does it really work? And one more question....If I do learn all the notes on the guitar, how does it benifit me if I'm just going to use tab? Or should I even use tab? Is just plain notes better or easier for rock guitar or does it even matter? I'm so confused but I want to be a good musician! Please help! =(

Jerry snyder's guitar school method 1,and 2 you can get it on amazon or any book store with a cd of the songs you will learn to play for about 10 bucks. It really teaches all the fundamentals that you really need to know. The book teaches reading melodies (single notes) and harmonies (chords). The book will help develop your ability to write and read sheet music. Learning sheet music or notes as you referring to is really a way to be able to communicate with other musicians, not just guitarist. The problem with tablature is that only guitarist know it, tablature and reading sheet music are like languages. Another problem with tablature is that it does not give time of the song. So i'd say if you really want to be able to write and always expand your musical abilities than go for the sheet music. You want to start simple. Look up songs on azchords.com and make sure there easy! If u cannot do the chords quick enough or dont know them dont try to ok its frustrating that way. A simple song would be 12 bar blues. ITs just A for 12 measures, D for 4, A for 4, E for 4, A for 4, then D for 4 mroe , And E for 3 i think this is the proper timing for it. With this kind of rhythm and timing u can do complex songs like revolution by The BEatles. Its just the 12 Bar blues basically with some little nuances thrown in here and there. Trust me Guitar may seem hard but i have been playing for a little more then a year and im starting songs like Yesterday, Blackbird, Gimme Three Steps, Pride & Joy. If i can do it so can u!
