Question: I took beginner guitar in school, but would i like playing a bass?

I took beginner guitar in 8th grade but we didn't get very deep and we mostly learned chords. i used to be able to play some barre(spelling?) chords but i was slow switching from an open chord to one. i haven't really learned any of the complicated stuff in class but i have a friend who plays bass and it seems pretty cool. could someone explain the pros and cons of trying a bass and if it would be right for me? thanks. ohh shooot. i have short fingers :( would i still be able to play? oh nevermind it was answered lol i didn't read carefully

If you liked guitar, you'd like bass. Bass is guitar, but it's just missing the two high strings. Ask your friend to teach you some things on the bass and see if you like it. If you do, look further into it. :D Edit- If you have short fingers you can still play. I have short fingers too, and I play guitar.

Bass is the same as guitar except its only the first 4 strings. The frets are spread out more so it's easier if you have kinda long fingers. But there are plenty of good bassists who have short stubby big toes for fingers like victor wooten, you'd probably like it.

A bass isn't the same as an electric/ acoustic guitar it has similarities however (ie stringed, shape) but plays a different role in a band (rhythm centric) I can't telll you if you'd like bass or not, i can tell you to play a bass is alot easier initially than guitar as you can play 4 root notes with little stress to the hand & you've a song (eg Blitzkrieg Bop). However playing anything moderately difficult is a different ball-game to the guitar. If you like bass try it out. Short fingers don't matter, improper technique will however affect your reach & flexibility which is why 1-1 lessons are always a good idea to learn proper technique
