(Posted by: daniel s on 2010-05-27 09:07:02)
Hi, my name is Daniel and I wan't ask a few Guitar Questions sorry if they sound stupid it's because i'm just starting out, i'm using the electric guitar if that matters 1.How often should you practice? 2.How do you practice is there some exercises? 3.What is a Wammy Bar for, I feel that it just gets in the way is it important? 4.when I try to play a note my fingers touch the other strings and it makes a weird fuzzy noise how do I position my fingers so it wont touch other strings? 5.Is there any free online guitar lessons, because getting a tutor tends to be quite expensive Thank you. - Daniel |

Been playing lead guitar since 1965 Binky deserves best reply award I'll just add to practise in front of a mirror, as it saves craning ya neck to see ya fingers & ya head is at the same angle as lookin' @ ya crowd onstage |

1. Practice anytime you get a chance. Only way to get better. 2. Pick out songs to play and play them over and over. Do you know how to read tabs? That is how I started. It is easy and you don't need a teacher. Free as well. I would look that up. Your fingers will get stretched out when you play. 3. The wammy bar, you don't really have to worry about right now. You can use it when you get shredding more. It is a distortion tool. 4.That is why you practice! spend time getting your fingers in exactly the right place and try your best to keep them at the base of each fret. It sounds better. And your fingers will be very sore and blister. 4. Look up tutorials and watch lots of YouTube videos. I would also find some friends who play and get some help. |

1. Arthur Rubinstein once said "If I go a day without practicing I know it; If I go two days without practicing my friends know it; If I go three days without practicing the world knows it. " Set aside time each day, even if just to tune the guitar. By the way, if you have an electronic tuner put it away until you have mastered ear tuning: Ear tuning is a vital part of the learning process. 2. Warm up with single note work, then work on your chord changes. After that it depends on what you are working toward. 3. I recommend beginners avoid guitars with wammy bars: When you are ready to use one you will know it. 4. Pay attention to where you are placing your thumb on the back of the neck. This is the foundation on which you build. I'll leave 5 to others who know more. |

1. An hour a day if possible. 2. Buy a book or chord charts to practice. 3. The Wammy Bar is only for special effects and is not important. 4. Put the tips of your fingers on the strings. You just have to work at bending your fingers until you can do it. 5. There are some. Also you can find guitar tutorials on youtube. |
