Question: Beginner guitar question...i'm confused.?

Okay, so I was just messing around with an old guitar and some You Tube tutorials, and I'm super confused. When it tells me to hold the fret, am I holding the actual STRINGS where the fret IS, or am I just holding th fret board? I am so confused. Any help is appreciated!! Also, if you have any websites with good teaching, that'd be cool :) THANKS!! @ Richard H: Okayyyy, but what does that mean? Do I press on the strings?

When someone tells you to hold the fret, they are telling you to finger the strings where the fret is. If you need any videos or any lessons, look up Paul Gilbert on youtube or get his dvds. He was my instructor at Musician's Institute and I really liked his teaching style. Good luck.

So basically when you hold the fret, you press on the strings a little to the left of the fret. So if the thing says "middle finger second string second fret " you'd put your middle finger on the second string, and then you'd place it next to that vertical bar, which is the fret. So you're pressing the strings into the board. Yeah, I think that's right. I hope so. If it contradicts with anything anyone else is saying, I'm probably wrong.
