Question: Electric guitar vs acoustic guitar?
(Posted by: on 2012-02-05 11:07:22)
So an electric you need to buy an amp but, is easier to play. Acoustic are cheaper but, what should I start of with? I'm thinking about buying a Squire lefty Strat as my first guitar. I do a lot of things left handed. I tried out my cousins right handed guitar and it felt weird. |

Electric is only easier because the strings are not as thick usually and the string tension is lighter, therefore it is easy to fret notes and make chords etc. Otherwise, you can do anything on electric as on acoustic if you understand your amp and guitar. It depends on what type of music you want to create and what you want to do with the guitar. Campfires, front porch, singer/ songwriter type stuff favors acoustic metal, punk, effects (distortion, delay, phaser/ flanger) need electric There is a ton of music that can be done with either, so its up to you. |

You should start with whichever one is right for the music you want to be able to play. If you don't play yet and you're left handed you should learn to play right handed. There's no reason not to and it's a good idea. |

Acoustic is easier to play, electric is more technical and is harder to hide mistakes. Distortion is not noise, do not confuse the two. I suggest you start with a cheap electric with starter amp, you can pick up some decent used beginner equipment for $100. |

Get an acoustic guitar.. I want to learn gow ti play an acoustic guitar myself and I've done endless amounts of research.. Electric guitar is easier to hide mistakes because of distortion but I believe acoustic helps you to become a better guitarist. Look up the likes of Andy McKee and tell me his guitar skills aren't awesome lol. Anyway I strongly think you should get an acoustic.. Its a much cheaper alternative as well as being something you can just pick up and play. |

I think if you start with acoustic is better. because if you want to be a musician you must can play both. if you want to play guitar just for your self. hear your heart. which sounds do you prefer. and another thing is that if you just want to start with electric because its easier its completely false and electric guitar is not easier at all. electric guitar has softer strings then you will have problem to play with harder strings and acoustic guitar. learning music need time and exercises if you start with the easy one you will be lazy to play guitar at all. |
