I am 20 male. I am mostly into heavy metal music and its sub genre. More into Death metal and melodic death metal. i just don't want to play and feel like listening to classic or soft rock stuff. and want to play the riffs and pull the strings like the rock and metal stuff. so please help me Is this myth true that beginners should start with a acoustic guitar? what if a dedicated beginner and a sharp minded and keen to learn beginner choose an electric over and acoustic one.? also tell me how much a decent electric guitar cost and what accessories and instrument we have to plug n play with electric guitar? amplifier ? right? what else? so how much a decent electric guitar and a average amplifier cost ? and will it be hard if person chose a electric over acoustic. will learning be super hard? please help me out. thanks. I have little knowledge about all this stuff. so please be informative. for years i was just listening to music. though always felt like playing. whenever i listened to a solo. my hands always played a air guitar. and as i am a student. this is my first guitar and my parents wont let me buy another one. i will buy 2nd one only when i am gonna earn. and english is my second language so kindly ignore grammatical errors. thanks |

> >Is this myth true that beginners should start with a acoustic guitar? < < Myths are never true; that's why they're called myths, after all. This one is indeed a myth. There is absolutely no reason to start on an acoustic guitar if you're interested in playing the electric guitar. Many people start with the electric guitar and do quite well. It makes sense because if you're learning on the guitar that's most appropriate for the music you want to play you will be more motivated to keep at it and keep practicing until you're successful. You have learned a valuable lessons, namely that all of the people who advised you to start on an acoustic guitar don't know what they're talking about. Feel free to ignore them in the future. I'm a professional acoustic guitarist, by the way. Good luck, and don't forget to take lessons. |

Dude start with an electric that's what i did, they are 2 VERY different styles, I personally think electric is more easy cause the fret board is thinner. Plus there is just a lot more you can do with an electric, if you like metal i suggest a Jackson or Ibiniez |

Well seeing as how you're into death metal, I would NOT recommend getting an acoustic guitar, lol. Seriously though, I started on an acoustic and moved on to an electric guitar later, because the acoustic was one of my family member's and it was all I had. I didn't notice it being harder or easier to play one or the other. There are some differences, like acoustics tend to have wider necks and the strings are further apart, but it shouldn't make learning any more or less difficult unless you have tiny hands and you can't make the stretch. as for other gear you need, you'll need a cable, an amp, picks, maybe a tremelo bar if you're into that kind of stuff, maybe a capo, and maybe a case, if you plan on taking your guitar anywhere. Also, it's good for any musician to have a metronome, but if you're on a tight budget, you don't really need it. I got my first electric guitar for about $200 I think, and although it's just a beginners guitar, I still love iit. Guitars range in price, of course, but you usually get what you pay for. Some guitar places have like beginner's packages or something, which I think come with a guitar, a cable, and an amp. If you want to skimp on the amp, you can find them for a couple bucks at garage sales. So you know though, sometimes crappy amps pick up radio signals. Hope this helps! |

If you like the sound of electric guitar and that's what you want, then get an electric guitar. you should get what you are drawn to and to what inspires you to play more. but definitely go to a store and try some different guitars out so you can see what you like before you buy anything. you can check out guitars.musiciansfriend.com/ value-packages to get an idea for the pricing on a guitar/ amp combo. some of the epiphones are a great place to start! (check out the G400!) and you can use headphones to practice. if your parents have different musical tastes, this may be a big selling point for them :) you don't need a pedal to learn to play. at some point you would need to get some effects for the style of music you are interested in. make sure you can play everything clean as well as with effects. this will help build your musicality. just remember a lot of those metal guys probably do play acoustic and some of them are probably really good classical players too. in the long run you should eventually get an acoustic, too. (there are certainly things about guitar that you can only do on an electric but there are a lot of things you can only do an acoustic. it will help you to become a more versatile, well-rounded musician) 1. go to a place that has guitars so you can try them out 2. i think it is true that it's better to start with an acoustic but learning on an electric is great, too. in terms of similar quality an acoustic is cheaper than electric b/ c you don't have to buy an amp and effects 3. in terms of price, you could probably get a good starting guitar and practice amp for under $400 new. you could probably get something.cheaper used so look around. good luck! and rock on! |

You're very smart to ask this question instead of going the "that's what they say " route. "They " are usually full of crap. It is important to start on the type of guitar that most inspires you, in your case electric. I started on electric, I own 8 electrics and not one single acoustic and have no real desire to. |
